Although public companies are valued on the stock market by the post tax price to earnings multiple method, they commonly prefer to examine privately held businesses on a pre tax EBIT multiple basis.
Clients are advised that the valuations of larger privately held businesses are often complex and that the valuation fee is likely to be in the range between $10,000 and $50,000, depending on the complexity of the task.
EBIT price earnings multiples can range between three times earnings to ten times earnings, depending on the desirability of the industry in which the subject business operates and also the point of the business cycle at which the business becomes available (either bullish, bearish or balanced.)
